Some people come back with a bang, I’m back with a Blog
As someone who works with colour on a daily basis it is easy for me to remember the power of colour, now it’s time to teach you too.
I’m currently in the dark depths of moving and boy am I feeling it! I of course have my amazing Fiancé supporting me, painting, moving heavy things and just being a rock as well as my parents who have helped me get to this point. This whole process has really reinforced the importance and power of colour.
I’ve been wearing lots of black and dark navy whilst painting simply because those are the colours of my painting clothes; however, I’m feeling the drag those colours have on my energy. We’re also painting all the walls White Scatter which is a beautiful warm white but looking at it’s lack of colour day in and day out has taken its toll on my mental health. I would love to be able to return to the colourful joys of my current home each evening but most of my favourite pieces are now packed away and my current home is feeling a little grey and sparse.
Now, how do we combat these dull days? COLOUR!!! I refer to these days as “Grey Days”. Grey is methodical and and powerful but lacks whimsy and joy. So by injecting colour back into my days I can combat the grey feelings and lift myself back up. I recently got my nails done by my wonderful friend Laura (lauramariabeauty) and when she asked what I wanted to get I knew I needed colour so we went for a mini rainbow!! I’m so obsessed with them and now every time I look down at my nails I get a surge of joy!
As a stylist I love to wear comfy, colourful clothing so by really making an effort to be colourful I have been able to combat the dullness. I’m currently sitting on my sofa with Gus. I wanted to be comfy to write this but of course had to be colourful so I’m wearing my Boody Yoga Pants (available to buy from Lume life & style above) with a pink and white striped t-shirt and a cream half zip with multicoloured flowers all over it. Match that with my rainbow nails and I am a very happy, colourful girl this morning!
As an organiser I love to use organised colour around my home. Whether it’s colour organising my cook books or using tone and shade to add colourful depth to the sofa or bedding, I LOVE colour in my home. Think the Home Edit meets Magee and Co from Dream Home Makeover.
If you are also in a Grey phase, add a little colour into your life. Whether it’s a full outfits of colour, adding colourful sprinkles to your morning coffee or simply a colourful background on your phone or laptop. If you want JOY and OPTIMISM add more yellow and orange to your day, if you want more HEALING add more green, if you want more CALM and PRODUCTIVITY add more light blue, if you want more IMAGINATION add more purple, if you want more PLAYFULNESS add more pink.
If you love patterns you can really play around with colour in Spring and Summer, whether you love Florals, Stripes, Spots or all of the patterns all at once! If you don’t love patterns, don’t worry, Colour blocking works too!
Whether you’re feeling low or simply want to add a little extra happiness, colour is my favourite medicine
If you want to talk colour or to find some new colourful pieces to add to your collection get in touch! If you’re in the Grey and can’t see a way out of it, please reach out to someone close to you and talk about it. Our villages care!
